Greetings to all! Here is the time to “report” on the “creative” work done, on the manufacture of belt-disc grinder, which is presented in the photo below.

The process began with the study of samples of industrial machines of this type on the Internet and the experience of other home-builders in the construction of belt grinders. Industry offered mostly designs made of metal and plastic, home-made designs were mostly wood (plywood) products, except, of course, an electric motor, bearings and shafts made of metal.

Decided to make my own machine, wood and metal.

Picked up an electric motor AOL 012/2, 2790 rpm, 120 W, operating voltage 220/380 volt 3-phase (from the drive on a magnetic tape for computers, produced in the late 60’s). Certainly, it would be desirable to have more power, but for the garage “creativity” 120 W was quite enough.

Based on the motor power, I decided to use the grinding tape glued into the ring 100×610 (width 100 mm, ring length 610 mm). Not enough motor power for a longer belt.

The selected electric motor and the grinding belt determined the main dimensions of the future machine. Recalculation of motor speed (at gear ratio from motor to belt drive shaft 1:1) in the linear belt speed gave the result 7.6 m/s, it was approximately in the middle of the belt speed range (from 4.1 to 18 m/s), at which the industrial machines I had studied worked. I was quite satisfied with this result.

As in the manufacture of previous machines, I began by measuring all the overall dimensions of the motor and the choice of options for its mounting. Constructive version of the motor AOL 012/2, according to the method of installation, is made with a connecting flange on the bearing plate with paws (GOST 2479-79). It at once has defined a variant of fixing of the motor on the base of the machine. Based on the results, drawings were developed, according to which the structural elements of the future machine were made.

Taking into account the size of the electric motor, we made a drawing of the base (18 mm plywood).

Based on a number of bearings with an inside diameter of 10 mm, an outside diameter of 30 mm and a height of 9 mm, with covers (bearings series 200, 18200, etc.), we have the following drawings.д.) it was decided to make rolls diameter of 10 mm. Since it was planned to fix the belt table in two positions (horizontal and vertical), developed a node of belt table rotation, combined with the node of belt tension. As a driving belt was planned to use a toothed belt (at purchase was positioned by the seller as a belt drive of some tool), width 10 mm and length (rings) 450 mm, turned out with teeth outward.

Using the compass, marked the center of the pulley motor, drilled 3 holes to install the grinding wheel.
