Why does the saw blade tear?

The main reason I have noticed that causes saws to break is that the machine is not set up.

Usually I additionally check the tuning by sawing a small loop in a thick material, and if the sawed piece goes easily in both sides, the tuning task is done.

For thick material the saw’s tension is also important. When sawing, it is inevitable that the saw is pressed down and deviates from its vertical position so that the cut will be crooked.

And if for the material with thickness up to 20 mm tensioning is quite enough, at which slight pressure will deflect a saw to 4-5 mm., then for thick material you have to tighten it tighter.

It is especially important when thick material is sawn with thinner saws because if there is too little tension the saw doesn’t have enough time to level out and you end up with a “barrel”

What it takes to saw straight
