Check that the voltage regulator is functioning properly. Connect the 12 volt test lamp to the brushes. Connect the 12V “plus” voltage to the terminal and the minus voltage to the brush holder “mass”. The control lamp should be illuminated.

Set the voltage to 15-16V. The light should go out. If the light is on or off in both cases, then the brush holder regulator is defective and must be replaced.
