Types and function of the riders
Originally, the perching tools were developed exclusively for potatoes.
It is used for a variety of purposes and is suitable for other types of work:
It is especially convenient to use the perch for crops that are planted in rows. The devices are divided into two main groups:
- Lister (other names are ear-shaped, arrow-shaped). externally similar to an elongated triangle, the “nose” of which plunges into the soil, and the side wings distribute the soil under the plants.
- The disc ones are convenient where the beds are close to each other, it is believed that the efficiency of such okulniks is higher.

Potatoes are the second most popular crop. If you are a potato farmer, then you will need a power tiller with the appropriate attachments, here’s how to make a disc mower for your power tiller to save time and money.
Potatoes &plant is quite tenacious and has a rather high germination rate. The high harvest depends on the cultivation and hilling of potato beds. Hillering & one of the most effective and useful agronomic techniques that are used during the cultivation of potatoes.
At the perching, there is an oxygen saturation of the soil, i.e.е. The process of aeration occurs, which leads to increased growth and number of tubers of the bush. This helps to achieve high potato yields.
As in modern conditions, potatoes are grown on large agricultural areas, this cultivation method without the use of mechanisms is simply impossible. Nowadays, even on the beds of dacha owners you can’t do without an arrow.
On large cooperatives or farms, the potato-ploughing work is done with tractors. And farmers, on the other hand, simply work with a shovel. This becomes physically unbearable if the plantation of potatoes exceeds one hectare. In this case, the help of small tools is resorted to.
Disc coulter for power tiller with his own hands: drawings and dimensions, how to make a rotary coulter and two-row cultivator
The lister type of planter is characterized by a constant working width. This unit itself is a tool with two non-moving wings. Since the grip width size in this form cannot be changed, it becomes inconvenient to work. The width of the furrow has to be adapted to the share tip, not vice versa.
Usually the standard working width of producers is 25-30 cm, which is quite inconvenient when cultivating potatoes (for planting tubers we usually take the width of 60 cm.). This means that it is not suitable for all gardening work.
Another feature of this type is that it does not fit every tiller. The tine can only be used with light cultivators up to 30 kg and a maximum horsepower of 3.5 hp. In order not to overload the cultivator, it is equipped with a thin stand. If you work at greater depth, or if the soil is too thick, the stand will simply bend, and thus protect the cultivator from overloading. That’s why the stand must never be reinforced. This is a special design.
The big advantage of the lister type tiller is its small dimensions, which makes it very comfortable to transport. But you should also take into account the fact that if the soil is very wet, it will start to stick, which creates a lot of inconvenience in the work.
The disc type of the toolbar
This type of design has several advantages over other types. It fits snugly on the tiller. The power of the tool itself increases many times over when digging at a slower speed of the power tiller. That fact makes it easier for the person doing the tilling. It’s much easier to till the ground than with the same lister kind. This is the most popular among farmers attachment type on the tiller. The adjustment is very simple and straightforward. It is popular because of its relatively low cost and ease of use. And the ridges in the soil are much higher than those made with other types of ridgers.
Another advantage of the disk type is that it can be used not only during planting, but also during the period of active plant growth. Potatoes cultivated with a disc hoe will give good sprouts and an abundant harvest.
Propeller-type weed beaters
Propeller-style tillers, or rotary ones as they are also called, are designed only for certain types of rotary tillers and power tillers, namely those that have two forward gears. In the second gear with increasing power you can not only loosen the soil, but also throw it from the rows into the beds themselves. The basic principle of this mounder is that it chops the soil, kicking out weeds and debris. And only after the soil is cleaned and loosened, the actual hilling itself will take place. This is the ideal solution for potatoes.
One more important point when buying a propeller type tiller. you should definitely ask the seller about 2 front gears. By default, the seller will think that you just need 2 gears, one back and one front.
Turfplugs with a variable working width
They are very convenient in that this mechanism can adjust the position of the wings. With this property, this type of okuchnik can be used to work with any crop and under any size of beds. Such models are very popular and in demand. Also this type of construction has a stronger and wider base. The wings can be adjusted to the width needed in a particular case.
The disadvantage is that by tilting the soil to both sides, it will bring some of it back into the furrow. So it turns out that part of the engine’s power is wasted. For heavier power tillers this moment will not matter, but for the lighter types of power tillers it is rather sensitive. After such energy-intensive work, the arms and back get very tired. After working in a small area in a potato field you have no energy left for anything else.
How to make a simple rocker arm for a power tiller with your own hands: drawings and video
To work you need to prepare welding equipment, a hammer, a vise, a metal lathe, a pencil, mounts for the separation of the sides, a drill with a metal drill (drilling machine), a sheet of metal 2 or 3 mm, a hacksaw and other tools and materials. Use the dimensions shown in the drawings in the photo to make the parts:

I. Preparing the parts for the rocker arm
At this stage, you need to make a drawing of all the parts and transfer them to paper or fabric. If you have a piece of waterproofing material or thick agrospan left over in the garage, it can be a great base for making parts instead of paper. The outlined templates should be cut out, attached to metal and outlined with a pencil. Arrange the workpieces on the sheet so that there are fewer scraps when you saw them out. this will help save metal. Now you need to cut the parts out of the sheet with a bolt cutter.
II. Bending parts and welding the body
The two halves of the front part of the perch are welded first. To do this, they must be bent so that the radii of the blanks coincide. Use a hammer and anvil to make the curve. Parts of the front are welded together at the front and at several points on the inside corner for strength. Grind out the seam with a grinder or file.
The best way to make the front part of the pickup?
The nose of the front part of the perch can be made as a triangle-shaped piece of metal. Bending of the triangle can be performed by placing a metal plate under the bottom (with the edge to the place of bending), or by clamping the triangle in a vice to the line of bending. Use a hammer to bend the piece to the desired angle. After the toe is welded to the front.
Both wings of the oculus are bent in the same way, as shown on the photo. You can either weld the sides to the front thoroughly or fix them with hinges and bolts. The last option allows you to adjust the width of the row to be perched. To create a movable version, you need to weld four ears on each edge of the front part from the inside. And two eyelets at the edge of each wing junction. Bolt the parts together. Ears or hinges can be replaced by nuts with screws. On top of the nuts, a 50 angle, about 18 cm long, is welded to the nuts. Cut a corner angle of 45 degrees. To fix the chosen wingspan (row width), weld loops to the inside of the blades. Before fixing, insert slats with holes for the bolt that will fix the wings to the mullion.
III. Finish assembling
Next, we need to make a sole for an ocular, side bars with holes for adjusting the blades and a central stand, which will also connect the nozzle to the power tiller. The central bar should be made of 10mm metal. If you want to adjust not only the width, but also the height of the hatch, you can weld a U-shaped strip with holes to the inner corner of the central part (see the photo). photo and video).
Through the end part of the bar you will have a “shoe”. a bar that can be adjusted by bolt. All the parts are welded and deburred with a file or grinder. The attachment to the tiller is made based on the ready-made locks on the machine itself.
Making an arrow yourself
Vegetation workers often make tillage tools with their own hands. Thanks to this, it fits well to the cultivator and has simple settings.
The price for a self-made device is several times lower than the factory-made. The selection of material for the parts, well-thought-out construction and ready-made drawings provide long-lasting use of the mechanism.
The necessary materials and tools
In the construction of homemade disk hoe we need metal parts of different assortment. Perhaps some of the material can be found in the home workshop, but the missing material will have to be bought. In addition to iron it is necessary to take care of the availability of consumables (welding electrodes, cutting discs) and paint to protect the metal from corrosion.
An easy project for a beginner! Do it yourself
- welding machine;
- grinder (angle grinder);
- Drill or drilling machine;
- an anvil or solid steel plate;
- metalwork tool (vice, hammer, chisel, wrenches);
- measuring tape.
Parts for tillage tools are made of sheet or section metal. The list of products may contain up to a dozen different items. Before making it it is necessary to prepare drawings or sketches of each part. On them should be marked all the dimensions and the name of the material.
The contour of the part is transferred to the workpiece. Cut the material. If the part has a curved surface, it is bent in a vice or on a special mandrel. Be sure to blunt the sharp edges with an emery or file to avoid injuries.
Connect the prepared parts to one another according to the assembly drawing. To do this, use a workbench or any flat surface. As a rule, assembly begins with the most massive part. Consistently attach other components to it.
Align the structure with welding tack welders. To avoid the burns, small parts are fixed with special clamps (screw clamps) or pliers.
When the construction gets the desired shape and stiffness, check compliance of the dimensions with those given in the drawing. In case of their divergence perform straightening of the product. After a satisfactory result, all joints are welded in place.
Tiller for potatoes with my own hands. technology and drawing
Potatoes are the second most popular crop. If you are engaged in potato growing, then you will need a power tiller with the appropriate attachments at the farm, below is a description of why potatoes need to dip and how to make a disc sowing tool for power tiller with your hands, it will save you time and money.
Potatoes are quite tenacious plant, and it has a fairly high rate of germination. Exactly from cultivation and hilling of potato beds depends to get high harvest. Hiller. one of the most effective and useful agronomic technologies that are used during the cultivation of potatoes.
When tilling occurs oxygen saturation of the soil, i.e.е. there is a process of aeration, which leads to increased growth and number of tubers. Thanks to that high yields of potatoes are reached.
Since in modern conditions potatoes are grown on large agricultural areas, this cultivation method without the use of mechanisms is simply impossible. In our time, even on the beds of gardeners can not do without a planter.
On large cooperative or farming farms, the work of plowing potatoes is done by tractors. Gardeners, on the other hand, just work with a shovel. This becomes physically impossible if the potato plantation exceeds one hectare. In this case, resort to the help of small tools.
Let’s look at the features of each
Lister with a fixed and adjustable angle
They have a fixed width of the ground and are used on very light motocultivators with up to 4 horsepower. They are able to cultivate seedbeds 25-30 centimeters wide, equipped with two side wings and a thin stand. The buttress protects the implement from overloading and mechanical damage. This tool can only be used on dry soils, because the clumped soil will interfere with the work of the moving elements of the design. There are lister devices with adjustable working width. They are fitted to higher horsepower motorcycles from 4 hp. Such units can also be used on wet ground with no fuss.
The principle of operation is the activity of propeller parts. They are used to first dig into the ground and remove weeds, and then loosen seedbeds. These modifications are mainly practiced for power tillers with front drive and two speeds. This is because the second speed increases power to 180 rpm. As soon as the power level is as high as possible, the implement can be used not only for mounding, but also for transferring soil into the furrows from between the rows of plants.
Easy Make Mini tiller blade How to Making and Assembly #WELDJET
Makes two furrows before planting, and is used for hoeing and loosening the soil. Includes frame that holds 2 riders. Saves time when cultivating the soil, because it has two working elements. Mounted on the tiller with a hitch. Due to the fact that for the operation of such a device requires a lot of resistance, it is used together with tines.
In place of the tines this implement is fitted with a helical tine rotor. Demonstrates high productivity for planting, loosening and hoeing. Suitable for operation with 3-speed units (two in front and one in reverse). In first gear, the implement dips the crop and in second gear, it also breaks up the soil between the rows of crops.
The most common type. Suitable for use with light types of soil. Trenching is done after the preparatory loosening of the ground by the cultivator.
This homemade rocker arm for the power tiller is interesting because it is easy to make in a rigid, not sliding version. Here’s a photo of such an ocular:
To do this, you need a little time and a little material. Cut out of 2
A piece of millimeter steel, according to the drawing, of a certain configuration. Sharpen the future bottom edge. Bend in the middle. How to bend? Through the fixed tube. Complete the bend by breaking the front edge with a hammer. Then we extend the wings of the butt. Fix the width between the wings with a steel crossbeam welded between them at the back. We punch the bottom of the product, so that the wings are ploughshare-like.
On the inside, at the front of the tool, weld a post with several holes drilled in it, so that you can adjust the depth (up, down) of the tool. Bolt the rod going to the power tiller to the rack. Attaching the boom to the power tiller.
The same lister model made in the sliding version:
The buttock is upside down, so you can see how it works. This must be a factory engineered tiller. The same one can also be made by hand. Instead of a crossbar that connects the fenders together, there are three pieces of connection: in the middle, welded at the front, a rod with holes; two crossbars from the fenders, overlapping on the middle rod. The connection point is secured with a bolt and nut.
The oblique crossbars are attached to the wings by a welded eyelet, so the crossbars can be moved. By moving a bolt closer or farther along the bar, you can adjust the width of the wings. Everything else on the sliding riser is done the same as on the fixed one. Of course, sliding is better. Not only the depth but also the working width can be adjusted.
How to make electric Power Tiller for Agriculture
Installing the rocker arm on the tiller
And so the manufacturing process is over. The weeder is ready and maybe even painted for rust protection and beauty. Now you need to set it correctly. In general, the adjustment process is identical to that of the plough, except that the plough should be set deeper into the soil.
Before you attach the tool to the rear hoe, mount the tines and the special hitch on the tiller. After that, the tiller is placed on a level, horizontal base and the rocker arm is lowered to just below the ground. Ideally, the bottom edge of the equipment should be slightly lower than the bottom edge of the tines. Also check that the bar is upright.
The next step is a test hoeing. If the implements go too deep into the soil, lift the toe and tilt the stand forward. If the grip on the ground is too weak, move the bar to the rear.
