Homemade guides have different designs and are made of different materials. For example:
- plywood guide rail;
- A guide rail made of angle bars;
- aluminum profile rail;
- a ruler made of a building rule;
- outboard carriage on bearings.
The chair and outrigger carriage are the most difficult to make. A plywood guide rail or a profile rail is much easier by design, but this does not mean that a cut made with them will not be of the same quality. The difference between the varieties is mainly in their ease of use.

The slots for the slide must be clearly parallel to the circular disk. This is why you mark and trace the workpiece’s centreline with a pencil and ruler. Precise marking for good tools.

Milling slots for skids
When the main rail is ready, slots are made on both sides of it at an equal distance using a milling machine. Metal profiles (U-shaped) can be inserted into the slots to make the slots last longer and the runners move easily.
Making the runners
The slats are sawed from wood. Prefer hardwoods. maple, oak, etc. The slats must fit well, but not too tightly, otherwise the carriage will not be able to move. If this step is done correctly, the base of the sled will be easy to install on the work table.

Mounting the base of the carriage on the skids
The slats are glued, then a plywood sheet is put on them. For the duration of the glue is placed on the plywood weighting agent, or it is fixed by any clamp. It is advisable to sand the plywood beforehand.

Marking of carriage corners
The carriage is installed in the slots, and the craftsman saws the front of it. From this area 2 corners of 45 degrees are measured. After that the corners are sawed off on both sides.
Correcting the angles of the carriage
Fix the construction and make several test pieces to assess the functionality of the carriage. If the angles of the sawed slats are not right, the circular sled is corrected: its borders are trimmed. Then again a test cut must be made.
This procedure is carried out until the desired effect in the size of the cut, the vibration level, and the need to exert effort in the process.

- Wooden blanks: boards, plywood, laminate;
- bars of wood with a thickness of 10 cm or more;
