This method is quite simple and safe and is therefore a priority. Perform the actions in the following sequence:
- Make sure that the retaining screw has been removed from the end of the spindle.
- Clamp the L-shaped tool in the jaws. A hexagonal wrench is best.
- Set the torque control to its maximum value or set it to drill mode.
- Switch the direction of rotation of the spindle to reverse (counterclockwise).
- Start the motor and allow it to reach full speed.
- Bring the rotating L-shaped tool between the cams to the rigid stop. For example, a locksmith’s vise, a gymnastic kettlebell, a bench scale
- At the moment the fixed L-shaped tool is struck, the chuck is unscrewed from its spindle quickly.
Attention! The chuck unscrews very quickly, in less than a second. It is therefore necessary to ensure that it falls from a minimum height, i.e., the stop on which the L-shaped instrument will strike should be as close to the floor as possible.
The second variant of this method is also possible:
- After unscrewing the screw and fastening the cut wrench (three-, four-, five-, six-sided) between the jaws, hold the screwdriver in one hand and use the other hand to hit the shoulder of the protruding tool with a hammer (mallet), so that the rotation is counterclockwise.
- Having “ripped” the cartridge out of place in this way, you can continue to unscrew it by hand.
This kind of unscrewing is especially effective if there is no voltage in the network (mains screwdriver), if the battery is flat or if the power tool is out of order.
Well, it also happens that the chuck does not want to unscrew, and thus the drill bit will not be pulled out of it either. It should not occur in serviceable chucks, therefore if the chuck will not unscrew under any circumstances, this is an indication that it is defective.
Usually this does not happen abruptly. the chuck begins to jam before it clamps so that it then does not unfold.
In such a situation, you can resort to two ways. We want to mention at once that the chuck should be replaced afterwards. In this case, the drill bit should be taken out actually in order to save this very drill bit, well, as well as to make it possible to remove the defective chuck from the electric screwdriver. You can’t do that with a stuck drill bit.
The first way is humane enough. You have to clamp the drill bit in a vice and try to turn the whole electric screwdriver around it. You can spray the chuck with WD-40 to make it easier. You can only turn the whole electric screwdriver with a chuck if the construction of the chuck is rigidly connected to the electric screwdriver and you can’t turn it other than by pressing the start button.
