How to choose a good plough for your motor-block?What to watch out for.
Today not only farmers, but more and more owners of country plots prefer to mechanize the cultivation of the soil with the help of snow blowers. A large number of various types of mounted and trailed equipment allows these units to be indispensable helpers in almost all types of land works.
As for the plow, this attachment is not only in demand, but also necessary in the cultivation of the ground. In this article we will talk about plows for the popular in our country motor-block Neva, which is widely used in the processing of small plots of land.
You can make your own plow for this power tiller
This kind has an individual difference from the ordinary product. It is equipped with a mechanism for reversing the share when plowing the neighboring row of land in the opposite direction. When the share turns, the soil is ploughed in the same direction as the previous row. Thanks to this mechanism the soil is ploughed quickly, unlike conventional types.
Before you start assembling, you need to find schemes of ready-made models. Only a person with good drawing skills can make drawings of a plow for a mini-tractor with his own hands. But if not, you can find a ready-made one on the internet.

This kind has three special planes: at the bottom there is a horizontal strip connecting two parts of the share, at the front there is a mouldboard, and on the side there is a vertical strip. Then you need to remove the ploughshare and mouldboard, put it on the floor and connect it to the wall, with the lower slat should coincide with the level of the floor.
Adjust the plough by lowering the lower part of the ploughshare 2-5 centimeters below the skid. The left and right sides of the mouldboard and ploughshare should protrude a centimeter from the level of the skid.
The surface of the share that is in direct contact with the ground, should be mounted on the mouldboard without any gaps. They must be carefully polished and additional fasteners are not allowed.
After working with soil, the whole machine should be well cleaned and lubricated with any recycling (oil, solidol, etc. п. ) in order to prevent corrosion during storage. And sometimes such a design can lie idle for half a year without direct use, waiting for the beginning of the plowing season.
Plough assembly is the mounting of the hitch (hereinafter, the hitch) on the plough. Plough and hitch must be assembled for subsequent mounting of plough to single axle tractor.
Prepare everything you need for the job. plow, hitch, wrenches.
For optimum ploughing depth match the hub hole (B) to the middle hole in the plough leg (A) and connect them with the fixing bolt (C).
Adjustment bolt (B) is inserted into the top bore of the plough leg (A) and secured with a nut.
Important! All nuts at the hitch and plow attachment points do not need to be fully secured because the secured nuts will have to be loosened for plow adjustment work!

So, once you’ve got the hitch on the plow, you can move on to the next step in preparing your power tiller.
Now you can mount the plow to a single–axle tractor. Connect the plough to the tractor with one or two (depending on the model of the power unit) pins (A). Fix the pins with cotter pins.
The plough is one of the main cultivation tools. Its working part is the share that cuts and turns the soil layer.
Depending on the adjustment of the coulter position, ploughing can be done with a partial or full turn of the seam:
- full turn (180 degrees). this is when the weed roots in the moldboard are on top;
- incomplete. the layer is rotated by 90-120 degrees.
The plough also cuts the roots of annual and perennial weeds.
No-tillage technology is more and more commonly used today. But for development of virgin and fallow lands, for syderat plowing, for weeds control without herbicides plowing remains an indispensable operation.
By turning the soil over, the plow buries the seeds of weeds that fell to the ground surface during the summer, to a great depth. Most of next year’s seedlings won’t be able to break through the layer of soil. The plow also cuts the roots of perennial root weeds. The result is cleaner ploughed land.
How to choose the right plough for your Neva power tiller?
The plough is a specially shaped ploughshare and heel. It is this design is very convenient and easy to plow stale hard soil. This attachment is made of strong steel, as it performs rather complex work with an increased load.
There are different kinds of plows:
- Rotary. It has several blades in action. The soil is tilled only one way, so you have to constantly go back to the beginning;
- Reversible. Has the appearance of a feather, which makes plowing very hard and stale soil very easy and fast. In this case, at the end of the furrow, all you have to do is turn around and continue working;
- Single-hoe. It has only one share and is designed to work on light soils.
There is another kind, the Zykov plough. It has a special design:
- A support wheel;
- reversible body with ploughshare and mouldboard. This not only allows you to shred the soil, but also to turn it over;
- The plough board is supported in the furrow. This makes the design more stable;
- is attached to the ridge with a stand;
- swivel mechanism with plough body attachment.
Before you start work, you need to install the plough and set it up.
Before choosing a plow for a power tiller, you will need to study the types and characteristics of the inventory. As a rule, the buyer has to turn his attention to equipment of three main types:
Before deciding which is the best of the proposed options, it is necessary to get acquainted with the characteristics of different types.
Single-hulled type tool
One-hoe equipment is equipped with one ploughshare, so it is considered the simplest.
If you want to make a plow for a motor-block with your own hands, you should choose this prototype. To do this, there are many schemes, differing in attachments and other details, so everyone can choose for themselves the most suitable drawing.
Principle of operation of a reversible plow
The reversible or reversible plough is a more difficult version of the twin-hulled machine.
It is equipped with a bent feather in the upper part of the body. It turns the soil layer upside down so that it can be used on paved ground. Such a plough can be dismantled for the purpose of sharpening or modernizing.
This kind of universal plow for motor-block differs from conventional units in that it is equipped with a ploughshare, which is turned in the ground to one side. This allows it to work the area several times faster. The coupling for the plough is standard, which makes the soil much more effectively cultivated.
The plough has 3 planes: horizontal lower, vertical side skid and front mouldboard. To buy a quality plow of this type, be sure to study the advice of experts:
The lower horizontal slat of the unit with the dismantled moldboard and ploughshare placed on the table should coincide with the surface of the table;
The lower edge of the cutting plough can be set 2 cm below the horizontal skid;
The position of the lateral edge of the mouldboard and the lateral edge of the plowshare should run in a straight line. At the same time, the elements themselves should be 1 cm beyond the side vertical bar:
- The surfaces of the fixed ploughshare and ploughshare make an angle of 15-20°;
- The front part of the working part of the ploughshare adjoins the body of the mouldboard without any visible gaps;
- Fasteners should be absent, and the surface of the elements should be polished.
After carefully studying the description of all plough types, it will be much easier for a beginner to decide on the most suitable option for him. Next, let’s look at how to make a homemade plow for a power tiller.
This figure represents the length of the attachment’s depth into the soil as it works. It should be set at a distance that can take the bayonet of a shovel.
If the depth is shallow, most of the roots of weeds will remain in the ground, and this will require additional time and effort to combat them. Otherwise, the upper nutrient part of the soil will be mixed with the ones below, and the planted crops will not receive the necessary vital substances.
The depth is adjusted by using screws that fasten the plow riser and lock. This adjustment is made by moving the equipment up or down. However, if there is one side connection and a hole, no adjustment is possible.
Adjusting the plow
Even a beginner can handle the adjustment of a plow on a motorblower by himself. But to do so, you’ll need to study the instructions and familiarize yourself with the key recommendations.
Not to say that with the adjustment of the plow for power tillers need to fumble for several hours. It usually takes considerably less time. And the more practice a person has, the faster he copes with the task at hand.
Before setting up the right plow for a motor-block, it is imperative to study the type of soil. The recommendations are different for different soils.
But there are several parameters by which you can adjust your plow for a motorized block, and prepare it for plowing. Specifically:
If you have decided to adjust the plow yourself on a motor-block type Neva or MTZ, then you need to study the following important nuances.
- Depth. The parameters of the depth of plowing directly affect the entire subsequent process of growing certain crops. If the depth is shallow, the weed roots will remain underground. They will grow and damage the crop. If it is too deep, the fertile soil will mix with the infertile soil. This will cause the plants to be nutritionally deficient.
- Angle of attack. It is also very important to set it correctly for plowing on the same Neva power tiller or a device from another manufacturer. Every plough has a certain angle of attack for ploughing. And it needs to be set up. Adjustment is made with a field board. The angle affects the performance of the power tiller. If the angle is too great, the plough will just bog down in the ground and ploughing will get stuck. If the angle is small, the single–axle tractor will not be able to remove a sufficient layer of soil.
- First furrow. When you have managed to adjust the plow on your motoblock, whether it is Neva, MTZ or other manufacturer, the first furrow is made. It gives a clear idea whether everything is adjusted correctly or not. After the first furrow, the wheel is lowered into the track, and the adjustment is made already in the furrow itself.
Now separately about how to adjust the plow when working on a power tiller of different firms, such as Salyut, MTZ, Neva, etc.
There are a few parameters that deserve special attention.
It is very important to adjust your plow, working on a motor-block Oka or other companies, setting the desired depth of plowing. Adjustment is carried out with a focus on 2 characteristics:
Choose a firm, level surface prior to ploughing. The flatter the better. If possible set it on an asphalt surface.
It is important to keep in mind that when ploughing, the right wheel is in the track and the left wheel is in the uncultivated area. To imitate this position, supports are put under the left wheel. The height depends on the ploughing depth.
The depth itself is adjusted with the depth adjustment wheel. Here the following simple rule applies.
The deeper the support wheel is lowered, the shallower the plowing depth. Or the other way round.
The height of the support wheel should be at the same level as the raised part of the power tiller.
Setting the angle of attack
You should also set the angle of attack on the ground. You need to adjust it with the frame.
Adjust horizontal frame position. The turnbuckles are used for this. The implement is lowered until the blade touches the ground. Then the body is lifted slightly. The rear part of the blade (ploughshare) should be lifted a few centimetres above ground level.
If the angle is too great, the single–axle tractor will sink into the ground. If the angle is insufficient, then it will not plow all the way into the ground. Only a small top layer will be removed. This is a serious prerequisite for the active growth of weeds after sowing or planting.
Creation of the first furrow and ploughing angle
The first furrow must also be cut. After a test drive, the farmer can see whether the plough is set up correctly or not. If the single-axle tractor does not slip, easily penetrates the ground and continues moving, everything is adjusted correctly.
After making the first furrow you need to lower the single–axle tractor into the resulting track. Then the insertion depth is corrected.
That’s it, adjustment is complete. You can fully get down to work.

The share, that is the blade, is being gradually worn away as it is being worked on. It becomes blunt, which negatively affects the quality, speed and efficiency of the work done.
The blades bear the brunt of the load, as they cut through the soil layer. Over the course of time the share gets blunt. The correct choice is the use of detachable blades.
If the cutting edge is damaged, then the plow cannot plow fully, and the single-axle tractor will stall. A bold conclusion can be drawn from such a phenomenon that it is time to rebuild the ploughshare.
Correct sharpening is done on special machines. The knives are heated up and the metal is made malleable. It is levelled and milled.
For home use, there are sharpening machines that are simpler. Restore their cutting ability by sharpening at a slight angle.
Adjusting when working with heavy power tillers
Many people are interested in the question of plough adjustment when working with heavy power tillers equipped with powerful diesel engines.
No major differences from light and medium power tillers. The only difference is that no tines are needed. This is because heavy machines weigh more than 200 kg. There is no need for additional tines.
