What is a “turtle”?
This is a flexible wheel, which has a working surface covered with diamond crumbs. On the back side there is a sticky base which makes it easy to attach the material to the special nozzle.
Used for grinding and polishing hard and brittle materials (concrete, granite, ceramic, non-ferrous metal, etc.). д.). Depending on the type of work performed, one chooses a nozzle with a certain grit size.
How to use
Flexible turtle disc is used not only for large-scale work, but also at home. For the nozzle is suitable equipment such as an angle grinder, angle grinder.
To extend the life of the diamond wheel, do not sand the surface dry, but with water. The tool is subject to heat while in use. Due to overheating, the polymer bond, on which the diamond grit is mounted, becomes brittle.
Therefore, when using a grinder with water, adjust the rotational speed to 2600 rpm. Reduce water volume when using wheels of size 500 and up. Use speed 1 or 2 for polishing with an angle grinder.
How to give a mirror-like shine to the surface?
Grinding and polishing is accomplished with flexible sanding accessories of various grit sizes. Therefore, in order to understand what tool should be used at a particular stage of processing, consider the options in detail:
- If you need to remove a strong roughness, use a flexible disc turtle with the coarsest grit (30, 50). It removes obvious differences in the cut of the stone.
- In the next step will smooth the base even more circle with a grain size of 100-200.
- After that, the 400 brush head is used, followed by the 800 brush head. To understand what the base will be after grinding with a wheel 00, remember how the floor tile looks like.
- To achieve a high luster can help wheel 500, 3000 and Buff.
- At the finishing stage, the stone is additionally polished with a felt wheel using a diamond paste. The product is applied to the felted part.
It is clear from the above that the principle of the diamond turtle grinding wheel is to grind the material in stages. Due to which the granite or marble becomes an attractive shine.
The attachment for an angle grinder for polishing a car
At the link you will find both the bits themselves in different sizes with Velcro (and an adapter for a drill/electric screwdriver), and several options for interchangeable disc sets for them. Note that the color of the jaw faces affects their hardness: white is the hardest, yellow is closer to hard, orange is medium, blue is closer to soft, and black is the softest. At different manufacturers, by the way, the color/hardness may vary and be exactly the opposite, so I always recommend to clarify it on the product page.
Hard foam nozzles are used at the initial stage in a complex with strongly abrasive pastes. They polish deep defects of coverage. Then they take medium and soft pastes and perform finish polishing to give a mirror shine to the body.
At the link you will see and fur tips. but with the apparent “softness” with lack of experience they can easily ruin the paint finish of the car. Therefore, you should not start with them.

Hey guys. I thought to make huyumbola (and what, all do, so I need all the more), but I have not gathered yet. but I made a little moai. in a thousand years, it’ll be bigger.
first I sketched two projections on a cut gabbro flowerbed measuring 20108 cm. This is the hardest part for me, I’m a very bad drawer. As the basis I took photos of real Easter Island and found in the network 3D model in 5 projections.
Then sawed out the contour on 2 adjacent sides.
I roughly finished the outline of the remaining sides.
Hovering, thinking about how to output the face. I have no spatial imagination. how to train it, who knows??
updated the marking and started slowly to cut the nose and cheekbones with a disc of smaller diameter.
used a template to transfer the curve of the cheekbones symmetrically.
praising myself for having one.
Finished up to _more or less_ symmetric look, marked contours of arms and chest, smoothed ears, rounded corners, lightly sanded with killed cutting wheel, in which there is little diamond left (smoothes cutting traces, shows texture of stone).
final step with the router “disc” cut through the eyes and mouth. with the router at “ball” marked the nostrils. in this photo you can see them a little bit.
the back of. Here you can clearly see how it’s all crooked))
tools: angle grinder, 125mm diamond disc, 50mm.
straight grinder, diamond cutter disc 20mm, ball 10mm.
work time: three or three and a half hours. I was at work two nights late. plus about an hour of marking, drawing, and redrawing. complex!
What I have deduced: fear thee, but do thine own work. happy with the correct expression =).
With this expression he went to the city on the Neva, to his new owner.
Technical data of the TRIO-DIAMOND flexible diamond grinding wheel 340050
The grit size of the abrasive disc is of critical importance when selecting a disc.
The coarse-grained ones are necessary for roughing work, and also for sanding brass, copper, aluminum, etc.е. materials that cause sharpening of the disc.
Medium- and fine-grained are used in final grinding and for work with hardened steels and hard alloys.
discs with aluminium oxide as an abrasive are rightly considered the most productive. Its toughness is second only to diamond.
For non-ferrous metals, rubber, wood, glass, etc.п., it is recommended to buy discs with silicon carbide. It has sharp crystals that perfectly polish such surfaces.
For gentle, non-abrasive polishing, felt and foam discs are used.
Discs can be used for grinding different workpieces: metal, stone, steel, painted surfaces.
There are also universal discs. They can be designed for work with several materials (e.g. wood and metal), but also for many different materials. Such discs are more expensive, but save time for tool changes.
So, it is on the basis of the material with which you will have to work, and the disc is chosen.
Nozzles on the angle grinder for grinding wood: features
For sanding wood surfaces, petal-type and circular sanding pads are used. In the first case, the sandpaper is fixed on the perimeter of the disc. In turn, circular discs provide for attachment of sanding discs with velcro. Both woodworking attachments are quite handy. In some cases, such tools are equipped with a special adapter that allows you to use the disk on the drill.
On the petal nozzles sandpaper is fixed along the perimeter of the disk
Useful information! The accessories for angle grinder for wood sanding may have different grit sizes. Its choice depends on the type of work. Coarse-grained products are used for roughing, roughing, and fine-grained. for finishing.
Which tool is best for sanding wood?? This operation can be performed with an angle grinder or a special grinder. The choice of tool depends on the purpose for which the surface will be processed. If sanding is necessary in order to prepare the wood for painting, a special disc on an angle grinder can be used.
For lacquering wood, it is best to treat it with a sanding machine. There are several varieties of this equipment. Devices of longitudinal type are so called because of the direction of movement of an emery belt. In turn, the vibrating variety uses circles, which are applied to the abrasive material.
Coarse-grained nozzles are used for roughing, and fine grained ones. for finishing
Lecture series The turtle.
Today we will talk about working with such diamond tools as the turtle.
Let me remind you that last time I told you about how to turn an ordinary juicer into an unusual stone-cutting machine.
For example, Victor Semin from Sliudyanka (Irkutsk region) made such a miracle of technique.),
for which he is entitled to this gift (read the previous article here).
Okay, don’t worry, there won’t be any twos, just no present yet. If you make yours, send photos, you will get prizes. This offer will remain in effect until the end of the lecture series
But still I believe that those of you who were inspired by this have already bought something similar or are about to do so.
This lecture is specially for those who already have everything and are itching to grind something.
Today I will show you how to use the turtles
with a piece of labradorite like this.
First, you should look at the stone, get some inspiration, and, after deciding what you want to get as a result, you should feel free to get started.
I, for example, decided to make a slightly rounded polish, repeating the natural shape of the stone.
And then we take a turtle with the number 100,
Set it all on our little machine, and off we go.
Smooth, gentle movements, not forgetting water, grind the stone, giving it the necessary shape. Don’t worry about the rough features, you can remove them on the turtle number 00
Press on the stone firmly, but not too firmly. Don’t try to stop the machine. You are going to overheat the engine. the turtle and the stone. This will not be good for your work.
Slowly but surely you get the surface you want. I got it like this.
The shape is fine, but the surface isn’t smooth enough. You can do it with a turtle 00 or 600.
You have to be even more careful with it. Overheating at this stage can damage your stone, chipping the surface. If that happens, it means you’ve either been pushing too hard or not cooling enough. Work softer, add water. Then, of course, you should return to the previous turtle to remove the defects.
At the end of this stage, you should have a smooth and well-shaped stone in your hands. I got it like this.
However, I am still not satisfied with the result. I feel it could be better. And, for all those who share my feelings, there is the turtle 00.
For the hyperpeektionists, there are also turtles 200, 1800, 3000, 7000, 15000, etc.д., but I think it’s too much. Practice shows that often 800 is enough, rarely 1200. But we will come back to this subject in later lectures.
And in today’s case, it’s time to polish.
For this we need to wrap the turtle velcro in felt, felt, denim or something similar as shown in the previous lecture (watch here).
Rub it well with an aqueous suspension of chrome oxide (or some other polirite)
Wet it down little by little and press it onto the polisher.
It’s better to take longer and do it well than to do it quickly and ruin it.
And only when you are satisfied with the result, wash your stone and admire it to your health.
All the technical details can be seen in the video.
I hope everything works out for you. If anything. write to me, I will answer any questions.
P.S. I almost forgot the most important thing. wash the stone thoroughly after each process to prevent particles of bigger abrasive particles and shards of stone from scratching it in the next stages.
How to choose a CMP?
In order to choose the right AGSHK, you first need to figure out what material you are going to polish, t.к. if AGSHK perfectly work on marble, does not mean that they will cope with granite too. Of course there are universal rulers AGSHK, but there are also complex materials that can not always be polished with a universal ruler with the required quality of polishing (level of gloss). The effect of a universal ruler will be less than that of a “special” ruler.
Then you need to understand whether the work will be done on the face or on the plane.
the hardness of tSSHK for polishing the face and the plane may differ, usually for polishing the plane the bond is softer, which allows tSSHK work effectively, but if the same tSSHK used on the face it can “run out” rather quickly, not having time to perform the required amount of work.
It’s also important, when choosing a ruler, to answer the question: “Polishing will be done with air cooling or water cooling?” This will determine the choice of this or that range
It is important to note that in some cases, even choosing the right dry ruler will not mean a quality polish if the operator during the work will overheat the tile or stone and set fire to the polish, so often even when polishing dry, at the last numbers the operator moistens the material with water and/or let it cool down.
You need to understand what level of gloss you want to achieve, if you want a nice matte sheen on the granite and good color. it will be enough to finish the polishing at number 800-t, and if the mirror shine. then here we have to work with numbers 1500, 3000 and buff.
