I will show you an interesting way to cut a round tube with an angle grinder. It’s an old locksmith’s trick, the pipe can be sawn off without marking, by eye and quite evenly.

First see how to make a normal, precise marking for cutting a round tube at 90 degrees.

Take a flexible strip of metal or a piece of paper. Wrap the entire circumference of the pipe and mark the end of the tape or paper with a pencil or marker. That’s it, now we take the tool and carefully guide it along this marking.

It’s pretty accurate. But if we don’t make this marking, is it possible to cut it off evenly?? At first glance it seems impossible to do it just by hand, it’s going to be crooked anyway. And no, there is a trick, look.

Here we have a piece of galvanized pipe with an outside diameter of 48 mm. We’re going to face this pipe. Like I said, we’re not going to do any markings, why do we need all this trouble?! And simply sawed off by eye.

When we bring an angle grinder with a rotating disc and touch it to the pipe, you get a picture like this.

We’re going to get a bunch of sparks coming right out from under the disk. And here on this stream of sparks we and we shall correct the angle grinder, namely a disk concerning a pipe that it was perpendicular. So we saw at right angles to the pipe.

The shear of sparks will not go exactly in a thin line, it will change its thickness depending on the position of the plunge disc in the metal. But at this stream of sparks we can always visually identify the center, the middle.

This stream of sparks, the middle of it, we need to put it at right angles to the pipe. Yes, you can’t do it to within a degree, but all the same, if you’re attentive and accurate, it’s not hard to keep this approximate right angle.

Let’s make a cut in the pipe, let’s go a little bit deeper, then let’s twist the pipe a little bit towards ourselves. And from this kerf on the pipe we start to move further with the disc. It’s precise enough. You can see it in the photo. We take an angle and check the whole circle. There are small deviations, but they are no more than 1-1.5 mm. Even with the markings, there’s a margin of error.

  • The electric jigsaw is the most convenient way in the absence of special scissors. There is a high chance of getting an oblique cut here, so the pipe has to be turned several times during operation to be more accurate.

It is categorically not recommended to cut pipes with this saw:

  • The band saw. its blade moves too slow and if it is not sharp enough it can damage the inside diameter of the pipe and cause chipping and cracking.
  • Circular saw. Because plastic pipes are flexible, pushing them into the machine often causes the pipe to shift and bump, which is dangerous for the person making the cut.

How to mark the place of the cut at 45 on the profile pipe

Not everyone knows how to cut a profile pipe under 45 degrees with an angle grinder correctly and qualitatively. Experts recommend using an ordinary triangular ruler for marking a profile pipe with a square cross-section.

First, on one of the edges you should draw a straight line perpendicular to the side of the pipe. Then the workpiece should be rotated, and a slash mark should be made on the adjacent edge. It should run from the edge of the first strip at an angle of 45 degrees.

The product is then turned again, and a perpendicular line for the trimmer is drawn. On the fourth edge, you will only have to connect the previously drawn strips diagonally. Now you can begin to cut.

Additional information! Many experts believe that the best way to mark a profiled pipe is a tape measure. However, with this tool it is very difficult to do the job perfectly, the cut can turn out uneven. A school ruler will do the job much better.

How to make a 90-degree branch out of the pipe

The easiest option. find a reference book on the manufacture and installation of piping. It has manufacturing drawings with reference dimensions. For the manufacture will need to make a pattern of cardboard or a thick sheet of paper, trace them to the contour on the pipe, and then use an angle grinder or gas to cut parts and weld. Making 90-degree fittings on pipes with a diameter greater than 180 mm is possible with the use of 5 or more segments, so that the swirls of the flow were not as large.

How to hold an angle grinder correctly

Many people have an angle grinder, but most people don’t know how to use it correctly and how to hold it. It leads not only to defects in the work, but also to serious injuries. Angle grinder is a rather dangerous power tool. The circle should be installed with the drawing upwards and clamped by a special nut.

  • The cut is made to the entire diameter of the piece;
  • Then I take a chisel and tap the cut;

Make an oblique cut

Now I will tell you how to cut the pipe at 45 degrees. In this case you can also use the crosscut.

  • I take a square sheet of paper (the side of the square should be equal to the outer diameter of the pipe);
  • I fold it diagonally;
  • wrap it around the pipe and fasten it.

In this case, if you make the cut at an oblique edge of the paper sheet, the end will have an angle of 45 degrees.

Another easy way to make a marking is to dip the pipe into a bucket of water at the required angle. In this case the wet edge will serve as a guide for the cut.

But it is best not to wisecrack, and use a conventional plier, which is precisely for such cases and is designed. Structurally, the device I mentioned looks like an inverted U-shape, the opposite slats of which have cuts at the right angle.

The pipe should be placed inside the jigsaw and cut at the right angle, placing the blade of the hacksaw in the appropriate grooves.
