Engine oils for power tillers. types and characteristics
A modern single-axle tractor consists of numerous gears, which all require grease and oil for proper, trouble-free operation. The quality and properties of the latter depends not only on the durability of the elements of the unit, but also on the effectiveness of its use in certain conditions.
The engine is called the “heart” of the walking tractor for a reason. It is on the condition of the first, in many respects, depends on the performance of the unit. The engine, in its turn, will not be able to operate without properly selected engine oil.
The latter performs several important functions at once:
- It cools the engine of a power tiller under heavy loads;
- Lubricates engine parts that rub against each other;
- cleans internal engine cavities from clogging;
- seals the fuel mixture, making it of higher quality.
During the operation of an air-cooled motor, the used lubricant evaporates and accumulates on the surface of the hot cylinder. As a result, the oil, along with the fuel, turns into smoky exhaust gases. All fuel combustion products collected on the parts of a power tiller make their lubrication much more difficult. To prevent this, many companies-manufacturers of motor blocks advise to use special antioxidants together with grease, whose task is to clean engine parts from harmful deposits.
All commercially available engine oils are divided among themselves according to the SAE system.
The following lubricants are distinguished by it on the market:
- Summer oils. these oils are designed primarily for use in the summer period. They have a high viscosity, and there is no letter marking on their packaging. These compositions include the means SAE 20, SAE 30, SAE 40;
- Winter oils. materials of this type are used for lubricating engines of power tillers and tractors during winter time. They are characterized by low viscosity and the presence of the letter W in the marking, which stands for “Winter. The winter oils include compositions SAE 0W, SAE 10W, SAE 20W;
- Multigrade oils. these compositions are in the highest demand. They are versatile because they can be successfully used both in winter and summer. There is a double marking on the package. These oils include 5W-30 and 10W-40.
To choose an oil for your power tiller you must also consider its composition.
Manufacturers produce engine lubricants with these compositions:
Also on the market you can find oil for both 2-stroke and 4-stroke motors. Most modern power tillers are equipped with 4-stroke engines with built-in air cooling systems. Such engines should be filled exclusively with 4-stroke oil.
The air-cooled motor heats up much more than the water-cooled motor. That’s why the oil in a single-axle tractor with this cooling system has to have a high thermo-oxidative stability and a rather low evaporation. In addition, the oil used to lubricate the engine must necessarily meet all known modern requirements of environmental friendliness, in other words, to show the permissible level of toxicity of exhaust gases emitted and smoke.
Changing the Oil in the Engine
The best option for good motor performance is to use the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer. The initial change is made after the first run-in, which normally takes about 30 hours. Some models require a longer adjustment and lapping process, particularly when replacing components.
Also requires seasonal adjustment if using summer or winter oil only, not multigrade oil.
Engine oil and gear oil filling#sparyman
Important! If the single-axle tractor has been idle, the fillers will still need to be changed before starting work. This is due to the fact that cleanliness can be disturbed by water and other foreign elements.
The oil change procedure is necessary in several cases:
In this video, you’ll learn how to change the oil in a power tiller:
Lubricant change process is standard. Procedure:
- engine heating;
- draining the oil through a hole located on the side or bottom of the mechanism, using a funnel and a container under the lubricant;
- Do not close the drain hole until the vessel is fully emptied;
- if there is no side or bottom drain, it will be necessary to tilt the single axle tractor and drain through the fill hole;
- After the procedure is finished wiping everything down with a dry rag and checking the level after refilling;
- the oil level in your tractor must be at the same level as before the drain or at the reference level, if there is one. often than not, they just fill up almost to the fill hole;
- Check the filler opening after each use and clean it with a rag.
Important! After the change, it is advisable to check the spark plugs, and if best, they are replaced.
Some engines are very sensitive. Example: For Honda, Subaru and some types from American manufacturers, the minimum lubricant grade is SG, and the recommended grade is SE.
How to change the oil
In order for the motor equipment to function smoothly and serve a long period of time, it is necessary to periodically replace the lubricant in the gearbox and engine. The first time it is done after running-in, and then after every 50-100 hours of operation mototekhnika (at heavy loads “fill up” will need even more often), unless otherwise indicated by the manufacturer.
Changing the oil in the gearbox
To lubricate the gearbox use any gear oil, for example, TAD-17, TAP-15V or other markings according to GOST 23652-79. Before pouring it in, check the presence of the old liquid. If necessary, it must be changed, checking the volume of the tank beforehand. Checking in such models of motor-block, such as the Neva, is carried out as follows:
- Place the equipment on a horizontal surface so that there is access to the gearbox, and the equipment itself is in an inclined position (so it is more convenient to pour the liquid).
- Insert the feeler gauge (it can be a metal bar 65-70 cm long, bent in an arc) in the gearbox and measure the level of the substance.
If the dipstick in the gearbox has about 30 cm of fluid in it, you don’t need to refill it. For other results, fill the lubricant to the right level. You must fill absolutely dry gearbox with not less than 2 liters of lubricating liquid.
Changing the oil in the engine
The procedure for replacing the lubrication fluid in the engine is as follows:
- The engine of the motor vehicle is started and warmed up.
- Set the single-axle tractor on an elevated, horizontal surface.
- Open drain hole in tank to drain contents into a separate container, then close tightly.
- Pour in the new oil through the filler opening, checking the level with the dipstick.
- Wipe the drain and fill holes with a dry rag, carefully removing any remaining lubricant.
Motor oil is not cheap, but you must not cut down on it or fuel. Only original, high-quality grease should be used, because it will determine the performance and durability of your power tiller and its mechanisms. Only a quality product with the right parameters can provide maximum benefit and ensure minimum wear and tear of internal engine parts. The manual is suitable for such power tillers as S htenli (Shtenli), Patriot, Tarpan, Cascade, Khoper, Agat, Oka, Luch, MTZ.
This process is carried out without having to dismantle the box. This is normally done by heating the unit to operating temperature. Next, unscrew the valve cap and completely drain off all the grease that is present. At the very end the filter is unscrewed. Screw the valve cap back on. Then pour in fresh fluid and tighten the filter unit.
Important. When doing this procedure it is necessary to check the amount of liquid in the gearbox using a special dipstick, there are minimum and maximum notches.
Choice of oil
Only use the oil that is specified in the instruction manual. If you bought a diesel single axle tractor, you should fill up with diesel fuel, winter or summer according to the season. If your single axle tractor has a petrol engine and the manual contains no recommendation for the oil, you can use SAE 30. When working on your power tiller in winter, you should use winter synthetic 0w40 oil. When buying, be wary of counterfeit products and prefer brand-name stores.
The oil you use affects the efficiency and quality of your power tiller, and how long it lasts depends on how well you change it. You can buy a single axle tractor here!
Oil for a diesel engine block. helps to choose the right oil
When selecting engine oil for your diesel engine tractor, it is important to follow the recommendations in the instruction manual. However, if the manual has been lost, you will have to study the formulations available on the market more carefully.
Engine oils for diesel engines are classified into the following categories. A special marking on the grease container will help you determine the type and correspondence of the composition for your particular power tiller:
- API CJ-4. compositions with this marking are designed especially for power till 10 l. с. and more. The composition of these lubricants has a higher viscosity, which guarantees proper operation of all elements of the engine of the aggregate;
- API CI-4. these oils should be used for engines equipped with different types of injection and supercharging. Such oils have good dispersion characteristics and high thermal oxidation resistance;
- API CH-4. lubricants with this marking are fully compliant with all modern requirements and quality standards. Among the advantages of these compositions is the possibility of filling them into diesel engines running on fuel with a sulfur content exceeding 0.5%;
- API CA. this type of oil is very suitable if the diesel fuel contains small quantities of sulfur. Oils with this designation protect the engine of a power harvester against the formation of harmful deposits on its walls;
- API CB. the use of this oil helps reduce the risk of corrosion in the bearings of motor blocks;
- API CC. these oils will be the best option for an engine that is equipped with a turbocharger, but does not have a supercharger. These compositions help power tillers to withstand long loadings and to work properly in heavy conditions;
- API CF-2. oils of this group show themselves well in power tillers, which give in to strong loads.
After a purchase of a proper engine oil you can pour it into the engine of your MotoBlock. The order of actions in this case is quite simple:
- First position the machine horizontally;
- Put a wide container under the drain hole in the engine and remove the plug by gently prying it with a screwdriver;
- Wait until the old oil has drained from the motor and screw the plug back into the hole;
- Pour at least 2 liters of new lubricant into the engine.
Remember to change the oil on new road blocks three times every 5 hours of moderate use. After that the oil needs to be changed no more than once per 25 hours of motoblock use.
What oil to fill in the gearbox
Opinions of users regarding the type of oil to be poured into the gearbox of their motocultivators may vary greatly.
Therefore, the only guide here is the manual that came with the new unit. There, the manufacturer specifies the lubricant type, amount, measuring methods, and other data.
It is important to choose the proper lubricant for your Geareducer based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. Ordinary engine oil is not suitable for this purpose. Transmission oil is poured into the Neva gearbox.
There are 2 types of oil. for 2 and 4-stroke engines. Both can be used to fill a power tiller. The engine model of the machine is important. The main part of motor cultivators are 4-stroke, but it is worth checking the instruction manual before refilling to clarify.
All the necessary information is printed on the oil bottles
The number of motor strokes can be seen on the label of the lubricant. They are differentiated by structure. synthetic or semi-synthetic (mineral).
Synthetics are considered versatile and more suitable for inexperienced owners. But it is more correct to distribute oils by seasonality in terms of equipment exploitation.
For example, some versions work in winter. The colder the temperature, the thicker the fluid becomes, so do not use semi-synthetic oils in the winter and vice versa. But they are better suited for summer, since they are gentle to details of the mechanism.
The table below shows what types of oils are used in different models of equipment.
Comparison of motoblock model and oil
Lubricant creates an environment that protects against soot and metal particles that accumulate during the combustion of fuel. That’s why most greases are viscous and thick. To determine the oil type for your cultivator, you need to study the owner’s manual.
The manufacturer recommends filling the gearbox of the Neva MB-2 motoblock with TAP-15V / TAD-17I type gear oils.
The new machine comes with a detailed manual.

Can you measure the diameter of the pins that lock the wheels or cutters on the shafts? You have to replace. I forgot to measure it before the shift.
I thought it was a nightmare. but no !Burn this motor in hell.It’s better to have one Chinese motor.than to have two MB 1s
I’ve had one of these since 2002, my brother has had two Chinese shits since then.
So your brother has a single axle tractor and yours is in a museum
I’ve had one of these since 2002. My brother’s had two Chinese engines since then.
Piss off!! Throw the crap out, build a normal Chinese motor and you’ll find out how it works in pleasure, and not drag canisters of gasoline, a bucket of candles, and earplugs so that the deaf does not remain, the Chinese engine even a 5-year-old kid will run. Not if you have five acres of garden you can suffer.
Pdash! Full tank of 15 hundred square meters, start at the first time, the plugs are native noise no more than a Chinese, I have a garden of 55 hundred square meters.but in a greenhouse the consumption is higher.
Piss off! Throw that shit away, build a normal Chinese motor and you’ll find out how to run it for fun, not pulling cans of gasoline, a bucket of candles and plugs in your ears so you don’t get deaf, a Chinese motor even a 5-year-old kid will run it. Well, if you have five acres of vegetable garden you can suffer.
Pdesh! Throw out that shit make a normal Chinese motor and you learn how it works in pleasure, and not drag canisters with gasoline, a bucket of candles, and earplugs so that he does not remain deaf, the Chinese motor even a 5 year old kid run. Not if you have five acres of garden you can suffer.
Well, you see the fun in what I also had from the factory stood such a motor, I know how it works, rattles so that the evening rumbling head, on the Chinese full tank is 3 liters, milling 50 hundredths in 2 trails, do not work in the greenhouses do not know, only in the open, I know 10 people who came to me specially to try how this motor works, Installed in 2009, immediately people were on their way, and who from their salary, who from retirement took such motors, not one did not regret, all noted power, fuel economy, ease of starting (although the Chinese engine but doduma put decompressor automatic camshaft, even for 200cc) well, the motor is purely physical can not scream 200cc louder than 320.
I thought it was a bad dream. No !Burning that motor in hell.Better one Chinese engine.Than to have two MB 1s
Too bad a lot of people have already gone through the Chinese and such a motor MB already on AVito cheaper than 4-5 thousand euros. not find, and in general, why is a Chinese copy of Honda better than a copy of a soviet Straton?
Take me two for a thousand and a third for 500 I’ll add the Chinese buy )))))
Why not, while there is in stock, but so in the bookmarks will add-)
It’s a shame that many have already gone through the Chinese and such a motor MB already on AVito cheaper than 4-5 thousand rubles. can not find, and in general, how is a Chinese copy of Honda better than a copy of a soviet Briggs Straton?
In short, all the better, starting with the quality to ekonomics of fuel in 4 times.
It’s a pity that many have already prohaval Chinese and a motor MB has on AVito cheaper than 4-5 thousand rubles. can not find, and in general, what the Chinese copy of Honda is better than a copy of a soviet Straton?
VST SHAKTI 130-DI POWER TILLER Engine Oil changing.
These engines are not even accepted for scrap.
So far, and do not give, in my hands is not less than 50motohours running time, this car 1994g., used, no complaints and is not expected, 2l.in 1 hour of any work is excellent), I note that this volume is 320 cubic meters, not a toy engine, fuel consumption is less already for zholobami
KAMAZ 740 8 pots, 11000 cc, 210 hp, Renault Magnum 440 hp, 11000 cc, 6 pots, I note if it is junk. junk. I tell you tales that I told my neighbor Vanya, I tell you as a man who worked with the domestic and Chinese engines, the Yeti 320 cc is not about, if it is dead even 500 cc make it dead, a motorcycle Ural also 650 cc, take any foreign engine cc 500, even compare not worthwhile, the hours do not count 1 hectare under the garden milling turns in the season 2 hectares potato planting, ridging, harvesting, 1.5 hectares of alfalfa 3 mowing per year, grain grinder, etc., and all this does 10 years toy motor 210cc, yes, for 1 hectare milling takes 6 liters of gasoline, a hectare of mowing alfalfa with the adapter 4 liters of gasoline, the native engine with a carburetor from Yava 12c on 25 acres consumed almost 5 liters, with a native carb all 8.
210cc. Where does the torque come from without gasoline and crankshaft like a 320? the correct power and torque it uses revolutions like an electric locomotive, higher revolutions less life, I can’t say about kamazes, but I have suspicions that the fuel system is old-fashioned, they could not make high-precision here ever-) DM-1 drags fine and in right hands works like clockwork
Dm 1 with a grip of 80 cm worked only in second gear in the spring milling, in the heavy soil just at high speed at low speed sighs, with a grip of 130 cm always work second, the 80 cm grip as in the native version of the engine just does not feel. Do not go far if the Chinese theme, the engine Chery Amulet 1.6 8 valves, 96 hp torque 138, VAZ 2106 1.6 8 valves 75 hp torque of 104. You’ve answered your own question, the engine is Chinese, but totally copied from Honda, I think it’s no secret that almost all Japanese cars for factories make parts in China.
To check the level in the crankcase, most models have a dipstick marked with a min and max mark. When the dipstick is pulled out of the crankcase, there is still oil in the dipstick, which indicates the amount of. If it does not appear accurate, wipe it off completely with a rag, put it back in the oil sump, and pull it out. Oil is sure to stick to the dipstick and show the oil level.
It is not supposed to overfill either the gearbox or the engine of a power tiller. It is not possible to fill above the lip of the dipstick as it comes right back out. And the level at the edge of the hole is acceptable for the engine. It is normal to have oil in the gearbox. For this reason, there is no dipstick for the oil level in the gearbox.
You can use an improvised dipstick. a piece of wire, etc to check the oil level in the gearbox.д.
For some engines, however, oil overflow in the crankcase is unacceptable. This can lead to increased pressure inside the assembly, squeezing out glands and gaskets, splashing. With worn piston rings and cylinder mirror, oil can also get into the combustion chamber, on the spark plugs, which is extremely undesirable. That is why it is better to fill up the engine with oil according to the recommendations in the Operation Manual.
The quantity and quality of oil should be monitored to determine the service life of your power tiller.
Some change it every year in the spring, before the start of the season. Other owners do not change oil for years. Some employ an hour meter and change it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. For example, every 500 hours.
It makes sense to change oil after the running-in period, because at that time it can contain small filings, metal chips, which are formed during the lapping of new nodes. These inclusions in the oil are extremely undesirable, since they already lead to wear and abrasion of the units.
